green ambassadors - Instructional seminar - 5th grade
Fifth Grade Green Ambassadors are such an important part of our Maryland Green School. In order to keep the Green momentum going, the Green Ambassadors work to come up with initiatives and actions our school can take, and then they work to get the word out.
Elmer's Glue Crew - One important program manned by the Green Ambassadors is the Elmer's Glue Crew. We keep so many empty glue sticks out of the landfill by having a system in place kept up by the Green Ambassadors. Here, we are covering potato chip cans with labels that look like glue sticks so every classroom can have a can to collect their empties.
Jump in the Pool! - One of the initiatives this year's Green Ambassadors really promoted was CARPOOLING and using other forms of Earth-Friendly transportation. We started out getting the staff to start carpooling by putting together a special board for them - and to get the word out!
Selfies! One of the ideas we came up with for Earth Day Week was to get the student body using Earth Friendly transportation by having them send in selfies during that week if they were walking, biking, carpooling, or riding the bus.
Brainstorming the Green - When we get together, once a week at recess to try to come up with new ideas to keep the green going at AES, we always have a great time together!
Always Something to Work On - As long as we are a MD Green School, there will always be work (and fun) to be done!
Presenting to the Student Body - To get the word out about our ideas for Earth Day Week, we put together a great powerpoint, and then we presented it to all students in the school during lunch.
Working with PE - Another idea we came up with, which was brilliant, was to meet with Mrs. Hlavka to work out a plan for a green-themed PE activity that all kids in the school could engage in during gym class for Earth Day Week. It worked beautifully, and the activity was a hit - even for Family Fitness Night!
Green Talent - One of our artistic Green Ambassadors drew the background art for the survey we decided to send home during Earth Day Week to promote our Earth-friendly transportation initiative. It worked!
Calling all Students! - As Green Ambassadors, we do a lot of announcing to make sure we are keeping everyone "in the know" about our green happenings!
Color-Cycle - One of the initiatives we have kept going here at AES is the Crayola Colorcycle marker recycling program. We keep a LOT of dried up markers out of the landfill!
