Lead today to change tomorrow - 5th grade C.E.U.
1. What Do Elephants Have to do with Leadership? Believe it or not, quite a few things! We began this unit by analyzing the traits of an elephant and discussing how these traits might be similar to human leadership traits.
2. Once we identified the characteristics of leader, we tested our knowledge of those traits by matching them with specific examples from a story Mrs. Young read to us about a young leader.
3. We then examined young leader stories in pairs to find examples of the four main traits of a successful leader.
4. After we agreed upon specific examples of the four main leadership traits, we went to the Computer Lab to map out our thoughts using Inspiration.
5. Believe it or not, animals often have innate leadership characteristics. We used our creative minds to research animals and then make analogies to compare them with human leaders. We also used our creativity to present the analogies in an artistic way - by cutting & gluing paper to construct leadership wheels.
6. Since we had learned quite a bit about the qualities of leader, we chose a leader we were interested in - a "living legend." We researched the leader, looking for specific examples of chosen characteristics that defined the person as a leader. Then we put our essay-writing skills to work to compose an expository piece about our chosen leader.
