Are we there yet? transportation c.e.u. - 2nd grade
1. In order to take a deeper look at how transportation in the U.S. has evolved over time, it was important to take a look at our own travel experiences - and of course, to get the chance to share where in the U.S. we have been.
2. To begin thinking about the evolution of different forms of transportation, we went to the computer lab to watch how things "moved." We identified Cause/Effect relationships with each different type of transportation.
3. Speaking of cause and effect, President Eisenhower had a huge impact on travel in the U.S. We learned about the Eisenhower Interstate Highway System and then began identifying patterns within the system.
4. To understand the number patterns within the Eisenhower Interstate Highway System, we created concept maps to symbolize different things we noticed about the system.
5. The geography of the United States is different, depending on location. To create a topographical map, we had to look closely at which features belonged where on the U.S. map.
6. Once we knew which features belonged where, it was time to make a tissue version of a topographical map. This map allowed us to discuss the obstacles travelers faced, no matter the mode of transportation.
7. It was time to pick a topic we wanted to research. The turn-out was amazing! We had everything from the way people were able to travel to Hawaii over the centuries to the historic and current-day NYC subway systems - with everything in between! Have a look at our masterpieces!
8. Once the research and projects were complete, it was time to present to our classmates and teacher. What an amazing learning experience. Mrs. Young even said she learned SO MUCH through our research and projects!
